Armin Only - Mirage!

It was one hell of a night! 13th of November, Jaarbeurs Utrecht, 9 hours of trance, 9 hours of Armin! ARMIN ONLY! Mirage!

I went there together with a friend. Both expecting it be one great awesome, a huge buildup of trance towards one big climax. We were wrong! the whole 9 hours was climax after climax. It was an unforgettable night. An exhausting night.

We arrived at the Jaarbeurs around 20:45 the doors opened around 21:30 with the show starting just 30 minutes later! A 9 hour spectacle from 22:00 to 07:00. this was a long, brutal but EPIC night.

(Kinetic) Typography

I recently discovered that I have a love for Typography. I think this is thanks to the Graphic Design class I followed @ Twente University. The class was mostly given by C.H. Vermaas and he made us all think about what we wanted to do in terms of Graphic Design.

It was a difficult thing to think about, since there are a lot of things you can do. After a while of thinking and stumbling on the Internet(awesome feature btw) I found some really amazing Typography work. Of course I've seen those things before, but now these appealed to me much more. I loved them. I'm amazed by them. Especially the Kinetic Typography videos.

You already know I love videos, editing and all related stuff with that, so it shouldn't be a surprise that those Kinetic Typography videos amazed me! Here are some examples of some amazing Kinetic Typography videos.

This one is just an amazing one of a lovely song. Using images at certain points for a very nice animation.

I was simply amazed by this one. So much energy is in there. It looks so amazing!

Now that I found out my love of Kinetic Typography I want to get more into it. Learn more about it, make my own, share it, and who knows where it will bring me!

Anyway,
For the living and working tomorrow project of CreaTe, me and my team are making a RepRap! A WhatRap? I that some kind of hiphop gangsta shizzle you r dizzling thar?

No its far from that! RepRap is short for Replicating Rapid-prototyper. Replicating because it’s a 3D-printer that can basically print a lot of its own parts making it more or less replicating, Rapid because you can make something over night, without you having to go somewhere to find one of those huge 3D-printers, and Prototyper because normally, you wouldn’t print something just once, because that would be a lot of work for just one thing, with the RepRap, it’s easy to make just one thing, and if you find a fault, or just don’t like the design, you can easily modify it, and try again.

So what does this have to do with chocolate? Imaging, it’s somebody’s birthday and this person loves chocolate, so you want to give him one of those chocolate statues, like those chocolate bunnies or chocolate easter-eggs, but, since it’s his birthday, and not Easter, you’d want to give him another kind of statue, maybe his name, or a small-chocolate-birthday-cake. But they don’t sell stuff like that, so you’ll have to make it yourself, and that’s where our RepRap comes in, it will be built in such a way, that it can print chocolate into any shape you want, even awesome-berries (My favorite shape).

We went to the Fablap(Don't laugh!)in Utrecht to make the first parts of our own Reprap. They have made special molds there so they dont have to print every part of the RepRap with another RepRap, This way parts can be made much faster. The first day we were there we got a little tour, Learned how stuff worked, looking around at other machines and people at work. It was all very interesting, and informative. But we were there to work ourselves so we did, and kinda failed. In about 3 hours we only made 4 parts of which only 1 was good and 1 maybe usable.

So today we went again, now with all we learned from last week and started working immediately. We had less time this week since some of us missed the train(TWICE!!) so we ended up only have 2 hours of time. So we worked fast and were able to create lots of good parts! Dare I say 'perfect' parts? It was a really good day!

We don't have all parts yet, so we have to go again after Xmas break, but we'll definitely get all parts then!

An Enlightening Experience

Hello there!

A month ago I bought a Philips AMBX set, and some one told me she was expecting a blogpost about it(yes you know who you are!). So here it is! better late than never!

So what is AMBX, You might have heard about philips's Ambilight technology? well if not, GO DO SOME RESEARCH! its awesome!

"Ambilight, which is short for Ambient Lighting Technology, is a feature invented by Philips Electronics, generating light effects around the TV that correspond to the video content. The effect, the company claims, is a larger virtual screen and a more immersive viewing experience. In addition, Philips claims that it reduces viewer eye strain. Ambilight also reduces the visibility of a typical LCD problem: back light bleed." - Thanks wikipedia!

Anyway, AMBX is a variation of that Ambient lighting technology. But instead of using it for TV's its used for PC's. Yes you can now have your own Ambilight on your PC! To enhance your gaming, movie, and whatever weird shizzle you do on your PC experience!

Good thing about AMBX is that it automatically detects any application that can use the technology. You just have to start it up once, the software detects it, and then you can setup some settings and voila, a new experience! Some PC games have special mods for it to make it work even better!

I also use it a lot for watching movies. It's amazing to see how your area around your monitor light up in the colors visible on the screen! I will post some pictures and maybe some movies of my set up later(After I cleaned up my desk xD)

Yay for Boredom

Im bored! ye thats right! the only reason I'm writing this blog is that for once, I dont have to do anything(uhm ye right... /conscience) and that I dont want to do anything... Well I do want to do something, like going out, partying drinking etc... But not really possible :(

ANYWAY... It's been a while since my last (serious) update, so here I go.
I've been working on my webpage a bit now for the course Web Technology. I made some updates to the Gallery page, which now includes flash'n'stuff. So it looks much better! And I added a Flash 3D flip gallery. Which I personally like very much.

For the record I didnt create that Flash 3D flip one, Its a template I googled!^_^

Oh and besides that I'm working on a page with my own configurable Webstreaming player! Ye thats right I'm going to make a new youtube!!! (you wish.../innervoice).

Anyway, thats it for now I guess. Cba* to think of more stuff to write!

We recently started Programming and we're using a program called Processing. It's quite a nifty program and its easy to use.
For our first assignment we had to make an avatar, which is animated or interacting with the mouse. Here is my result:

Hello again!

A faster update this time! This because I made some additions to the blog!
As you might have noticed, there are 2 new links at the top of the page.

One links to a very crappy website! This website will give you a headache guarenteed. This was an assigment for the course Web Technology, which introduces us to website languages and stuff.

The other one will link to my new gallery page! It's quite simple yes i know, but effective and easy to manage! All the pictures are uploaded to Imageshack and my gallery links to all my work there.

What has been, cant be again

Yes weird title eh? I couldn't think of anything better.
ANYWAY.... it's been a while since i posted my last message. A lot of things happend last week(and the week before that). The big day of the presentation is behind us and we can all safely say that it has been a great succes.

(I'm talking about Tuesday 22nd of September)

The day started out with finishing all our projects, setting up the room and arranging a lot things still. Then at around the beginning of the afternoon a lot of people entered and looked around.

As I said before I have been working on a intro video for this project and although I'm not completely satisfied by it, I did learn a lot while making it. and the general opinion was that it looked good. So I'm happy :)

I wish for next time I will have some better material to work with. We had a short period to shoot and that often results in some sloppy work if not planned right. For next time I do hope we get some more time.

So, last weekend I've been busy with After Effects again. I wanted to practise some more for the upcoming presentation on the 22th. I knew I still had some trouble with 3d camera movement in AE, so i decided to work with that. I found a nice tutorial about 3d camera movement and it had a nice preset to make it easier, called SureTarget.

I followed the tutorial and played around with it, and this is the result:

I'm going to try to use the same effect in our presentation.

In this blog I'd like to tell a bit more about the project we are doing now for CT (Creative Technology).

The project is called 'We create identity'. What it kind of means is that we as a group of students, we sort of have to create an identity for CT by presenting ourselves in a new area on campus called the Smart Xp lab.

Monday we made some different bigger plans on what kind of presentation we want it to be and what kind of things we want in it. Tuesday we divided into different smaller groups to work on some smaller things of the presentation. I chose to work on the intro part, together with 3 other CT students.

For the intro we decided to do a short promo movie (about 5 min long) in which we show who we are, show short what kind of things we do, and make people think about creativity and combining it with technology.

To do that we are going to interview different people on campus about what they think creativity is and how you can link that to technology.
Some short clips we'll put into the promo, but we'll also work that out in a different presentation where people can rewatch interviews more deeply.
This way we hope that people will wonder themselves what Creativity is.

So here I am again, this time talking about some more creative work I'm doing at the moment.
I'd like to mention here that my passion in Creative Technology is and probably always will be in Film. Recording, Editing and Special Effects.

I recently started learning how to use Adobe After Effects. After Effects is not really a program in which you create, cut, and finish your entire production.

I usually combine Photoshop together with AE to create some really cool effects(newest creation can be seen on top of my blog! My awesome logo!). If I'm making longer videos then I create some effects, scenes, 3d compositing in AE and put the rendered cuts together in Sony Vegas(I prefer Sony Vegas over Premier because of simplicity, more about that later).

Before I started to learn After Effects I did everything with Sony Vegas. From simpel text effects and transitions to just regular editing and compositing. Some examples can be found on my Youtube channel, but I'm going to link my latest full video made just in Sony Vegas: 'Into Divinity'

What I want to do from now on, is using AE together with different programs to make another big production. Something that takes more than a day to complete. I was thinking in making a sort of Presentation video which could play in the Smart XP lab. A presentation video about Creative Technology, About us CreaTe. Who we are, what we do etc...

What is Creative Technology.....

... Creative Technology is a new education on the University here in Twente. Well actually its not an official education yet, It's the pilot year so it is still on trial. We(us CreaTe students and the University) are very enthusiastic about CT.

The Uni also invested quite some money in the development of a new area called the Smart XP lab, and we as the students of CreaTe have to present ourself together with the Smart XP lab. So we have think of what we will need, how we will set it up.
It's sort of "decorating" our own lab, which is very cool in my opinion :)

Anyway... I shall blog some more later today or tomorrow, because I have to go pick up my student OV-card!
